Working with the planet

Embracing Sustainability in Construction

At Dependon, we recognise that sustainability is not just a passing trend but a vital commitment to safeguarding our planet for future generations. With the increasing effects of climate change on both the environment and society, we are dedicated to incorporating sustainable construction practices that prioritise eco-friendliness and environmental responsibility.

Our initiatives include the installation of energy-efficient lighting in our offices, aimed at reducing energy consumption and promoting a healthier workspace. Additionally, we prioritise sourcing materials from local companies, significantly reducing carbon emissions and pollution within our supply chain. By partnering with responsible suppliers, we ensure that recyclable packaging is maximised, further lowering our environmental impact.

Our commitment to eco-friendly building solutions and the use of green building materials allows us to deliver energy-efficient construction projects while contributing to sustainability within the construction industry. We also continuously monitor our vehicle fleet to support carbon offsetting on a project-by-project basis, ensuring that our transportation methods align with our sustainability goals.

Key sustainability initiatives include:

  • Energy-Efficient Lighting: Installing energy-efficient lighting in our offices to reduce energy use and promote a healthier working environment.

  • Local Sourcing: Sourcing materials from local suppliers to cut carbon emissions and minimise pollution in our supply chain.

  • Responsible Suppliers: Collaborating with suppliers who prioritise recyclable packaging to reduce waste and environmental impact.

  • Carbon Tracking: Monitoring our vehicle fleet to facilitate effective carbon offsetting tailored to individual projects.

  • Eco-Friendly Materials: Incorporating green building materials into our construction projects to promote energy efficiency and sustainability.

Through these efforts, Dependon is not just building structures; we are helping build a sustainable future for our communities and the planet. Together, we can make a positive impact on the environment through thoughtful and responsible construction practices.

Commitment to Sustainability and Carbon Neutrality

At Dependon, we are committed to driving sustainability through innovative practices and partnerships. We use the Carbon Trust’s SME Carbon Footprint Calculator to accurately measure our carbon footprint, allowing us to set meaningful targets for improvement and work towards becoming a carbon-neutral company. Additionally, we have partnered with “Ecologi”, a leading environmental organisation that was featured on Dragons’ Den, to actively offset our carbon emissions. For every payment made by our customers, Ecologi funds tree-planting initiatives that help offset the carbon generated by our projects.

We are equally committed to providing our customers with affordable, sustainable solutions to make their homes more energy-efficient. By installing the latest smart technologies, such as Nest and Hive, we enhance home energy management systems. This year, we anticipate a growing focus on water-efficient products as the government introduces policies aimed at reducing domestic water consumption. Sustainable bathroom products are becoming increasingly mainstream, and smart water metres are empowering homeowners to monitor their water usage more effectively.

Our range of products includes:

  • Design-Led Dual-Flush WCs: Minimising water use without compromising performance.
  • Taps and Showers with Flow Regulators and Aerators: Combining style with water-saving functionality.
  • Low-Flow Showerheads: Providing excellent performance while conserving water.

Our plumbers are also trained in renewable energy solutions, including ground and air-source heat pumps. These eco-friendly heating options not only reduce carbon emissions but also offer significant savings, with government grants available of up to £5,000 for heat pump installations. Transitioning from traditional gas, oil, or solid fuel systems to heat pump technology can dramatically reduce carbon emissions and energy use, translating into average annual savings of £261 per household.

Together, we can build a more sustainable future while benefiting from innovative, eco-friendly solutions.

Striving for a Sustainable Balance in Home Environments

At Dependon, we recognise the importance of achieving the right balance between insulation and ventilation to maintain optimal indoor air quality. This is especially critical as we spend approximately 90% of our time indoors, where common pollutants from activities like smoking, heating, cooking, and cleaning can compromise air quality. Poor air quality is linked to various health issues, including allergies and asthma. To address this, our electricians are expertly trained in the latest ventilation technologies, ensuring your home enjoys both energy efficiency and improved air quality.

For decorating needs, we proudly recommend Graphenstone paint, which offers a natural, ecological, and health-conscious range of lime-based products, priced similarly to Farrow and Ball. When it comes to boiling water taps, we endorse Quooker, an environmentally responsible supplier that has transitioned to an electric fleet for all its engineers.

By implementing these thoughtful changes, we can collectively make a significant difference in creating sustainable, healthier home environments. Together, let’s work towards building a greener future, one home at a time.
